Tax Announcements IRS Announces 2010 Standard Mileage Rates The Internal Revenue Service Dec. 3 announced, in news release IR-2009-111, that the standard mileage rates for the use of a car will be 50 cents per mile for business miles driven, 16.5 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, and 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations. The standard mileage rates are used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes, IRS said. The new rates are effective Jan. 1, 2010. IRS said that Revenue Procedure 2009-54, which contains additional details, will be published in Internal Revenue Bulletin 2009-51, dated Dec. 21.
